Medicare Open Enrollment: 3 Simple Steps to Plan Enrollment

Find and enroll in the Medicare plan that's best for you.

If the idea of finding, comparing, and enrolling in a Medicare plan feels overwhelming to you, it doesn’t need to be.

With the help of an online Medicare plan compare tool, the process can be an easy and straightforward one.

It’s also a great way to ensure that you find a plan that’s right for you at the best available price.

We’ve put together a simple 3-step process to help you enroll in a Medicare plan online.

  1. Enter Your Zip Code

  2. Compare Plans in Your Area

  3. Enroll Online With Secure Application

In this article, we’ll be using the eHealth Medicare plan compare tool to illustrate our 3 steps. The eHealth Insurance compare tool is easy to use, reliable, and has a great reputation. Additionally, they have a secure online application portal to ensure that your information is protected.

Also, note that this article has a special focus on the Medicare Open Enrollment Period, which runs from October 15 to December 7.

So, we’ll introduce you to enrolling online in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Part D plan. When you enroll in a plan during this period, your coverage will start on January 1 of the upcoming year.

Step 1: Enter Your Zip Code

To get started, the first step is an easy one. Head over to the eHealth compare tool by clicking on this link.

Once you’re there, select “Medicare” plans from the drop down menu of insurance plan options and click “Continue Shopping.”

Shop Medicare plans on eHealth by entering your zip code.

Next, enter your zip code in the box and click the “Let’s Go” button. And just like that, the eHealth compare tool has retrieved all the Medicare plans that are available in your area. Now, you can start browsing plans to get an idea of what’s available to you.

Step 2: Compare Plans in Your Area

This brings us to our second step, using the eHealth tool to compare plans. At the top of the screen, you’ll notice that you can shop both Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D plans.

Simply click on either box at the top, “Medicare Advantage Plans” or “Medicare Part D Plans” to switch between the two.

Filter Medicare plans on eHealth by monthly premium and more plan features.

Additionally, you can filter the plan options by their characteristics using the toolbar on the left. You have the option of filtering by insurance company, monthly premium amount, various plan features, and more.

Also, above the plan feature filter, be sure to add your prescription drug and doctor information by clicking on the corresponding boxes. This will allow you to personalize your search to learn how the plan options directly address your specific health needs.

Personalize your Medicare plan search by entering doctor information and prescription drug information on eHealth.

As you scroll through plan options, you have the option of doing a side-by-side compare for up to 3 plans at a time.

To add plans to the side-by-side view, click or check the “Compare” box in the lower corner of the plan option.

When you’d like to see the side-by-side view, click the “Compare Now” button at the top.

Step 3: Enroll Online With Secure Application

When you’ve finished browsing, compared your top choices side-by-side, and found a plan you’re happy with, you’ve reached the third and final step: enrollment.

To get started on the enrollment process, simply click the plan’s “Enroll Now” button. The eHealth tool will let you know everything that you’ll need to complete the application.

Then, when you’re ready, you can start your application process by clicking the “Start Secure Application” button. From here, eHealth will guide you through completing your application.

Medicare Open Enrollment: 3 Steps to Enrollment

This completes our introduction to enrolling in a Medicare plan online. This 3-step process will help you find the plans that are available in your area while also presenting them in a useful and manageable way.

Using the filtering tools will ensure that you get a plan with the features you require at the best available cost.
